Culture note: In Iranian culture, bread is considered sacred. Iranians never throw bread away — if a piece falls on the ground, it is picked up and kissed. The word نان (naan) is one of the first words every Persian child learns. Going to the نانوایی (bakery) to buy fresh hot bread is a daily family ritual — and a perfect moment to practise Farsi with your child.
