The Physics Exam Gap

Why students who know the theory still drop marks on Physics papers

GCSE Physics combines scientific understanding with algebra, calculations and graph interpretation. Students need to select and apply equations, rearrange formulae, convert units, interpret graphs, and apply concepts to unfamiliar contexts under time pressure. Understanding the topic is not enough if the working is unclear.

✗ The wrong equation is selected

An equation sheet does not choose the right equation for you. Students need to identify the quantities, select a suitable equation and show each step clearly.

✗ Unit conversions go wrong

Missing a conversion from km to m, kJ to J, or minutes to seconds can cost marks even when the physics is understood.

✗ Graph questions are skipped

Distance-time graphs, velocity-time graphs, I-V characteristics, and decay curves appear regularly. These are high-value marks when practised properly.

✗ 6-mark questions lack structure

Extended answer questions require a logical chain of reasoning, correct terminology, and clear explanations — not just isolated facts.

For 2026 and 2027 GCSE Physics exams, an equation sheet is provided. Lessons focus on choosing and applying equations accurately, including rearranging formulae and converting units.

GCSE Physics lesson questions

How much do GCSE Physics lessons cost?

Sepehr’s lessons cost £49 per hour, Nazia’s cost £57 per hour and Simon’s cost £90 per hour. Compare their profiles and confirm availability before booking.

Can I try a lesson for free?

Yes. Danaa offers one free 1-hour trial lesson with each tutor, so you can discuss your goals and see whether the lessons suit you.

Do I need to memorise all the equations for GCSE Physics?

For GCSE Physics exams in 2026 and 2027, students receive an equation sheet. You still need to select the correct equation, rearrange it, convert units and interpret the answer. Use the official sheet for your exam board and exam year during practice.

Is GCSE Physics harder than Biology and Chemistry?

Physics is often more mathematically demanding because it requires equation recall, algebra, unit conversion, graph interpretation, and applying concepts to unfamiliar problems. With regular calculation practice, students can build confidence and improve their marks.

Can your tutors help with Combined Science Physics?

Tell your tutor whether you are taking separate GCSE Physics or the Physics component of Combined Science. Confirm the board, tier and topic coverage before booking.

Which GCSE Physics exam boards do you cover?

This page covers AQA, Edexcel and OCR specifications. Tell your chosen tutor your exam board, tier and whether you take separate Physics or Combined Science, and confirm their coverage before booking.
