🌍 For Non-Persian Speakers

Learn Farsi as a Second Language

You already speak one or more languages. Now add Persian to your repertoire. Whether you are learning for your partner, your career, or your curiosity — your multilingual brain gives you a real advantage.

🇬🇧 English 🇪🇸 Spanish 🇫🇷 French 🇩🇪 German 🇹🇷 Turkish 🇸🇦 Arabic + any language

Why Multilingual People Learn Farsi Faster

Research shows that people who already speak two or more languages learn a third language significantly faster than monolinguals. Your brain has already built the neural pathways for switching between sound systems, grammar structures, and vocabulary banks.

Farsi is especially rewarding for multilingual learners. It belongs to the Indo-European family (like English, French, Spanish, and German), has no grammatical gender, no noun cases, and a relatively regular verb system. If you speak Arabic or Turkish, you will recognise many shared vocabulary words.

  • You already know how to learn a language — we build on those skills
  • Farsi shares vocabulary with Arabic, Turkish, French, and English
  • No grammatical gender — simpler than French, German, or Spanish
  • Regular verb conjugation — fewer exceptions than most European languages
  • The Persian script can be learned in 2–3 weeks with guided practice

Why Are You Learning Farsi?

People learn Persian for deeply personal reasons. Our tutors understand your motivation and tailor every lesson to match your real-life goals.

💑

Your Partner or Spouse Is Persian

You want to speak with your in-laws, understand family conversations at Nowruz dinner, and surprise your partner by saying "dooset daram" (I love you) properly. Our tutors have helped dozens of non-Persian partners build real conversational skills — from basic greetings to deep family discussions.

🌍

You Love Persian Culture

You have read Rumi in translation, watched Iranian films, or fallen in love with Persian music. But translations lose the depth. Learning Farsi lets you experience Hafez, Saadi, and Ferdowsi's Shahnameh as they were written — and understand the cultural layers that translations cannot capture.

💼

Business or Professional Reasons

You work with Iranian, Afghan, or Tajik communities — in diplomacy, humanitarian work, trade, journalism, or academia. Speaking Farsi transforms professional relationships. Even basic Persian shows respect and opens doors that English alone cannot.

✈️

Travel and Exploration

You are planning to travel to Iran, Afghanistan, or Tajikistan — or you have already visited and realised how much richer the experience is when you can speak even basic Farsi. Our tutors prepare you for real travel situations: markets, taxis, restaurants, and conversations with locals.

Our Approach for Non-Persian Speakers

Unlike apps that give everyone the same content, our tutors adapt their teaching based on which languages you already speak and what you want to achieve.

🗣️

Speak First, Script Later

We get you talking from lesson one. You do not need to learn the Persian alphabet before having your first conversation. Many of our non-Persian students speak basic Farsi within the first month — reading comes naturally after.

🔗

Bridge from Your Languages

If you speak Arabic, your tutor will highlight shared vocabulary. If you speak French or English, they will point out Indo-European connections. Your existing languages become scaffolding, not obstacles.

🎯

Goal-Based Lessons

Learning for your spouse? We focus on family vocabulary and emotional expressions. For business? We teach formal registers and professional communication. For travel? Practical situations and cultural etiquette.

🎵

Culture Through Language

You do not just learn words — you learn the culture behind them. Persian poetry, music, ta'arof (etiquette), and storytelling traditions are woven into every lesson. This is how language sticks.

Questions from Non-Persian Speakers

Answers to the most common questions we get from multilingual adults starting Farsi.

Yes. We teach many non-Persian speakers using transliteration (Farsi written in Latin letters) in the first weeks. You start speaking and listening immediately, and the Persian script is introduced gradually alongside. Most students can read basic Farsi within 3–4 weeks of starting.

Significantly. Farsi and Arabic share a large portion of vocabulary (estimates range from 25–40% of Farsi words have Arabic origins). The script is also similar, though Farsi has four additional letters. Your Arabic knowledge gives you a major head start, and our tutors know exactly how to leverage this.

Absolutely. Many of our non-Persian students are partners or spouses of Farsi speakers. Tutors can focus on family vocabulary, terms of endearment, ta'arof (Persian etiquette), holiday traditions like Nowruz, and the kind of everyday language you hear at family gatherings. This is one of our most popular lesson types.

The US Foreign Service Institute classifies Farsi as a Category III language, meaning it takes roughly 1,100 class hours for professional proficiency — compared to 600 hours for Spanish or French. However, Farsi grammar is actually simpler than French (no gender, no cases). The main challenge is the script and some pronunciation. With a private tutor, most adults reach conversational fluency much faster than the FSI estimates.

Yes. All Danaa tutors who teach non-Persian speakers are fluent in English. In early lessons, English is used as the bridge language. As you progress, the ratio shifts toward more Farsi and less English. Some tutors also speak French, German, Turkish, or Arabic and can use those as bridge languages too.
