Why GCSE Chemistry is harder than Biology or Physics

Students who take all three sciences often find Chemistry the most demanding. Unlike Biology, which rewards careful reading and structured recall, Chemistry requires students to simultaneously apply mathematical formulae, understand abstract atomic theory, and write precise chemical equations — sometimes all in one question.

4. Rates of reaction and equilibrium

Explaining why rate increases with temperature using collision theory, predicting what happens to equilibrium position when conditions change, and interpreting reaction profile diagrams all require students to apply understanding rather than recall facts.

5. Required practicals

Why bilingual students face extra challenges in Chemistry
