The Speaking Gap

You Understand Farsi — But Can't Speak It

Sound familiar? You can read Persian script. You understand conversations when you hear them. You know hundreds of vocabulary words. But when it's your turn to speak, the words don't come out — or you freeze, translate word-by-word in your head, and sound unnatural.

!
You translate in your head

Instead of thinking in Farsi, you think in English first, then translate word-by-word — making you sound robotic and slow.

!
You hesitate and pause too much

You know the words but can't retrieve them quickly enough — so conversations feel awkward and unnatural.

!
You stick to safe, simple sentences

You avoid expressing complex ideas because you're not confident — so you never sound like yourself in Farsi.

!
Apps and courses don't help

Duolingo teaches vocabulary. Textbooks teach grammar. But neither teaches you to speak — you need real conversation practice with a native speaker.

What You'll Practice

Real Conversations — Not Grammar Drills

Every lesson is built around speaking practice in realistic scenarios — the kind of conversations you actually need in real life.

🍽️

Everyday Situations

Ordering food, shopping at bazaars, asking for directions, making appointments, casual small talk with neighbours and colleagues.

👨‍👩‍👧

Family Conversations

Talking with grandparents, discussing your day, expressing opinions, sharing stories, connecting with relatives in their mother tongue.

💼

Professional Settings

Business meetings, phone calls, emails, introductions, polite requests, workplace conversations with Persian-speaking colleagues.

✈️

Travel & Social Life

Navigating Iran or Persian-speaking regions, making friends, attending gatherings, understanding cultural context and etiquette.

📰

Discussing News & Culture

Talking about current events, Persian poetry, cinema, history, and culture — conversations that go deeper than surface-level chitchat.

🎯

Your Custom Topics

Whatever you want to talk about — your hobbies, your work, your interests. Your tutor adapts every lesson to your life.

How It Works

The Conversational Method — Speak from Day One

Our method is simple: you learn to speak Farsi by speaking Farsi — from your very first lesson.

1

Assessment Conversation

Your tutor assesses your current speaking level through a relaxed conversation — no written tests, just talking. They identify gaps and set goals.

2

Real-Life Scenarios

Each lesson focuses on a specific scenario — ordering at a restaurant, calling a friend, discussing plans. You practise the vocabulary and phrases you actually need.

3

Live Correction & Feedback

Your tutor corrects pronunciation, grammar, and word choice in real time — so mistakes don't become habits. You get instant feedback while speaking.

4

Speaking Homework

Between lessons, you record yourself speaking on a given topic. Your tutor listens and gives detailed feedback — so you improve even outside class.

5

Confidence Building

Over time, speaking becomes automatic. You stop translating in your head. You think in Farsi. Conversations feel natural — not stressful.

Common Questions

Conversational Farsi: FAQs

Do I need to know how to read Farsi before starting conversational lessons?
Not necessarily. If you can understand some spoken Farsi (even passively), you can start conversational lessons. Your tutor can introduce new vocabulary visually or phonetically without relying on Persian script. However, if you want to read texts, messages, or menus in Farsi, we recommend combining conversational practice with basic reading lessons.
How is conversational Farsi different from a regular Farsi course?
Regular Farsi courses balance speaking, reading, writing, and grammar. Conversational Farsi is laser-focused on speaking fluency. You spend 80-90% of lesson time actually talking — not doing grammar exercises or writing practice. It's designed for people who want to communicate verbally and sound natural in real-life situations.
How quickly will I become conversationally fluent?
Most students can hold a confident 10-15 minute conversation in Farsi after 2-3 months of weekly lessons (assuming some prior exposure to the language). Complete fluency — where you can discuss complex topics comfortably — typically takes 6-12 months of consistent practice. Your tutor will track your progress and set milestones based on your goals.
Will I learn formal or informal Farsi?
Both. Your tutor will teach you when to use formal vs informal speech — formal for strangers, elders, and professional settings; informal for friends, family, and casual situations. Understanding this distinction is essential for sounding natural and culturally appropriate.
Can I focus on a specific accent or regional variant?
Yes. We have tutors who speak Tehrani Persian, Isfahani, Shirazi, and Dari (Afghan Persian). If you're planning to visit a specific region or connect with family from a particular area, let us know and we'll match you with a tutor who speaks that variant.
What if I'm too shy to speak in front of a tutor?
This is very common — and our tutors are trained to help shy learners feel comfortable. The first lesson is always relaxed and low-pressure. Your tutor will create a safe space where mistakes are expected and encouraged. Most students tell us their nervousness disappears after the first 2-3 sessions.
